Eight employees identified as potential team leaders of the future have completed leadership training designed to expand their skillset.

The Assistant Cooks from the Council’s Catering & Cleaning service came together to complete the four two-hour sessions to learn more about:

  • Teamwork and communication
  • Deadlines and pressure
  • Assertiveness and giving feedback
  • Dealing with change and communicating change

Launched by Organisational Development earlier this year, the Leading Teams workshop programme aims to improve the effectiveness and confidence of employees who may make the transition from working within a team to leading one in the future.

Jen Brown, Organisational Development Adviser, said: “Succession planning is essential for any organisation and that is why this course was launched – to help identify employees who could become potential team leaders and arm them with the skills they’d need to advance in their careers.

“This is the first time that the course has run, and although it is too early to evaluate fully, the initial response has been very positive with delegates finding the content relevant, useful and transferable to their workplace.”

Following the last session that was held in Municipal Buildings on Tuesday, March 12th, the aspiring cooks collectively agreed the course had been of benefit, helping them to think differently about how they would approach certain situations in the workplace.

Managers wanting to find out more about the Leading Teams workshop programme should contact Jen Brown directly. Contact details can be found via the Council directory.
