A sponsored walk organised by the British Heart Foundation (BHF) is looking to fundraise money to mend as many broken hearts as possible. Anyone taking part will get to see the world famous Kelpies too!

The BHF’s Falkirk Heart Walk begins in the Helix Park at 9:00am on Saturday 20 September. The family friendly event has two walks; a 7k and a 12k. It’s not a race, it’s all about having fun for a great cause!

The walks are guided by experienced park rangers and take in some of the best attractions at the Helix. It has been organised by BHF Scotland’s local fundraising manager Heather Gregory and she will be helped by Bernie Wilson and Amy McNeilage, two local residents who have just formed the BHF Scotland Falkirk Fundraising Group.

Bernie said: “We’re really looking forward to seeing lots of families come to the Helix and enjoy the stunning sight of the Kelpies and a walk along the canal banks.

“The walk is free to enter but you need to get sponsored to raise as much money as possible for the Mending Broken Hearts Appeal, which conducts ground-breaking research into heart disease.”

Falkirk Council Provost Pat Reid added: “The Heart Walk is a great cause for a fantastic charity. I’m sure our communities will help the BHF build on the work it has already done in battling heart disease.

“We want our communities to be fit and healthy, and by taking part in this event people can help those with heart problems whilst being proactive themselves.”
