The regeneration of Denny town centre has been given a significant boost today (24 November) thanks to a funding award of £1.4m.

Falkirk Council’s successful bid to the Scottish Government’s Regeneration Capital Grant was one of eighteen projects announced today and will receive a portion of the annual £25m budget for projects delivering large-scale improvements to deprived areas.

Councillor Dennis Goldie, Spokesperson for Economic Development said: “This is a tremendous announcement and a significant step forward for Denny, its residents and retailers.

“It demonstrates the significance and importance of this project - that Falkirk Council has stood by through the depths of the recession - and comes at the point we are demolishing the last of the 1960’s blocks..

“This grant will be used to provide continued regeneration improvements and transform Denny Town Centre into a modern, attractive place to visit, shop and do business in.”

The regeneration project is reaching another important milestone with the demolition of the last of the Church Walk Blocks at the south end of the town centre site next to Denny Cross.

Local company, Central Demolition Ltd, was awarded the contract (£123k) to demolish the last of the blocks as part of delivery of the ongoing regeneration programme for Denny town centre.

All demolition works will be complete by early December and the site clean-up will include the recycling and crushing of all the demolition material that will be used in the next phase of works.

The town centre regeneration office staffed by Falkirk Council Economic Development Officers remains open at 35 Church Walk each Tuesday morning for Denny residents and business to obtain further information about regeneration activity progress for the town centre.
