Falkirk Football Club players

Falkirk Football club is throwing its weight behind a local litter campaign which has been cleaning up local football pitches across the area in the last year!

‘Kick litter out of the Game’ has already shown rubbish the red card by amateur football clubs in Denny and Dunipace and the town’s professional team has been getting in on the action too.

Falkirk FC will host a litter awareness raising event at their home game with Livingston on 21st February. Players will wear campaign t-shirts during the warm up and the campaign message will be seen and heard throughout the match.

Councillor Jim Blackwood, spokesperson for Public Protection said: “There was public concern due to litter following local football matches which tend to take place in public parks.

“We have had fantastic support from local football teams who have helped us kick litter out of the game leaving playing parks free from litter and rubbish.

“Falkirk FC management and players have also been hugely supportive since the campaign kicked off last year and we hope this additional push will further help get the message across that litter has no place in the game!”

Following the pilot in Denny and Dunipace there was no more weekly complaints about the litter on the pitches after games which could include over 40 plastic bottles, football tape and sweet wrappers.

Kieran Koszary, Falkirk FC Development Manager added: “As a club we firmly endorse al the work the litter team is doing in the Falkirk Council area and we are very much looking forward to this event to highlight how vital it is to keep local pitches clear from litter.”
