Proposals which could transform the villages of Bonnybridge and Slammannan were approved at a meeting of Falkirk Council on 6 December.

The report provided Members with proposals for the allocation of the £1 million Regeneration Fund and also provided key updates on the former Royal Hotel, Slamannan and the Falkirk Town Centre- Battle of Falkirk signage.

Highlighting the Council’s commitment to supporting smaller settlements facing economic and environmental challenges, the Regeneration Fund aims to bolster infrastructure and foster community-driven development in the five town centres and the villages of Bonnybridge and Slamannan.

Further work will now be undertaken to look at the potential to further develop plans for pilot projects in both villages. Proposals, which are currently at feasibility stage, include:

  • Slamannan – demolition of the Royal Hotel and creation of green space at this site, restoration of the village clock and historic interpretation and Public Realm Improvements to the main parade
  • Bonnybridge – Improvements to Bonnybridge Toll roundabout and Memorial Park, public realm improvements, astroturf to Anderson Park and the installation of a new Pump Track

Councillor Cecil Meiklejohn, Leader of Falkirk Council said: “This marks a significant step forward towards creating real transformative change in both communities.

“Proposals, though in their early stages, aim to address economic challenges and improve the look and feel of both Slamannan and Bonnybridge. Through tailored investments and community driven initiatives, we hope to create spaces that reflect the needs and aspirations of local residents.”

There was also an update on the Battle of Falkirk signage which was installed during the summer in Falkirk town centre for the 725th anniversary of the first Battle of Falkirk.
