Health and safety
The Health, Safety & Wellbeing Team provides advice to Services on how to manage their health and safety risks. Health and safety is more than just complying with regulations. One of the benefits of engaging with the team is that we will consider what your requirements are and help develop solutions that improve your work. These will ensure you comply with your legal responsibilities and also deliver improvements in the way you and your team works.
The Health, Safety & Wellbeing Team undertakes audits of all work areas within the Council to review their working practices and identify areas for improvement. As part of this audit schedule we classify work areas as High, Medium or Low which influences the frequency of the audits:
High Priority – These areas may have a high level exposure to work related injury or illness based of the type of work undertaken, frequently use heavy plant or equipment, highly dependent service users, or may be required to comply with specific regulations or standards.
Medium Priority – These work areas can have a moderate exposure to work related injury or illness and auditing within these work areas is to ensure that workplace hazards continue to be managed effectively.
Low priority – these work areas tend to have a low level of exposure to work related injury or illness and the auditing process provides the Council with assurance that expected standards are being implemented within the work area.
Health and safety is everyone's responsibility. If there is a problem in your work area you can either do something to resolve it or speak to someone who can.
