The last few years have seen a heightened awareness of data protection issues in the public sector, particularly given increased scrutiny by the Information Commissioner's Office and the imposition of monetary penalties for data protection breaches. An on-line training module has been developed to help ensure employees are aware of their obligations under the Data Protection Act 1998.

This short on-line training module will be of use to all employees across the Council, both for induction and refresher training. The module takes about 20 minutes to complete.

By the end of this module you will:

  • Have learned about the key definitions in the Data Protection Act 1998.
  • Understand an individual's rights in relation to their personal data.
  • Know about the consequences of a breach of the Act.
  • Be able to consider ways to keep information secure.

The course is free and available at any time through our eLearning platform, OLLE.
