Energy in Falkirk
We use energy every day to power devices, heat homes, schools, and offices, and fuel vehicles. But using energy also harms the environment and costs money, contributing to climate change.
Reducing energy use
We need to use less energy for the same results. For example, improving insulation and using energy-efficient light bulbs can lower energy use and heating costs.
We are working to improve energy efficiency in:
- Council buildings
- Council housing
We also aim to ensure new buildings and renovations in the Falkirk District meet energy efficiency requirements and that energy generation follows planning and building standards.
Actions include:
- Electric vehicles: Investing in electric vehicles and charging stations and reducing our reliance on fossil fuels for transport.
- LED street lights: All streetlights have been switched to energy-efficient LEDs.
- Schools energy challenge: Teaching students to save energy.

Local Heat and Energy Efficiency Strategies
Local Heat and Energy Efficiency Strategies (LHEES) are documents created by local authorities to support Scotland's net zero and fuel poverty goals.
We have produced LHEES, which are available on our climate change page.
