Concept designs
To help illustrate what the new venue could look like, architects have developed concept designs.
These early drawings focus on the overall look, layout and key features that the venue could have within the set budget – they are not the final designs.
The final designs will be developed after community feedback has been considered and planning requirements have been taken into account.
The exterior
You will be able to access the new venue via the High Street and Callendar Riggs:
- From the High Street you will come directly into the library and café/bar area, with access to the main theatre, the studio theatre and dance studio just behind.
- From Callendar Riggs you will climb the feature stairwell that provides access to the library, studio theatre and upper levels. There will be a separate entrance for the Advice and Support Hub.
Inside the building
Inside you will find a versatile space for cultural, community and civic life.
Whether you’re visiting to see a performance, taking part in a class, enjoying the library, meeting friends for a coffee or attending a meeting, the venue will accommodate a wide range of activities.
Performance and event spaces
The main theatre will accommodate larger performances, featuring circle seating to accommodate 550 to 600 people. There will also be a bar area and additional library space.
A 140sqm dance studio with sprung floor will be ideal for dance classes, rehearsals and fitness activities.
There will also be a studio theatre that can accommodate up to 200-seats on a flat floor for events and community gatherings. This flexible space will also be home to council meetings.
Creative and community spaces
There will be workshops and studios, ideal for crafting, creative arts and group meetings.
Within the rehearsal and backstage areas there will be changing rooms, orchestra storage and backstage offices and wider storage for performances.
Library and community services
Accessible from both the High Street and Callendar Riggs, the library will provide a modern space for reading, study and community events and activities.
The Advice and Support Hub including the Registrars Service will be positioned at the Callendar Riggs entrance, with its own dedicated entrance.
The venue will have a café, a welcoming social space for everyone to enjoy. It will also be home to a small council office.
