Independent housing advice

If you need independent advice about your housing or homelessness situation, there are several organisations that can help. Advice is free, confidential and separate from the Council.

This page explains who you can contact, what they can help with, and how to get in touch. 

When to seek independent advice

You may find independent advice helpful if you: 

  • are homeless or at risk of homelessness 
  • have received a decision you disagree with 
  • need help with benefits, money worries or budgeting 
  • want support to understand your rights 
  • feel unsure, overwhelmed or need a second opinion 

You can get advice at any stage of your homelessness application. 

Citizen's Advice Bureau (CAB) – local, free advice

CAB can help with: 

  • housing and homelessness issues 
  • benefits and income maximisation 
  • employment, money and debt advice 
  • form filling and understanding letters
