Rent Deposit Assistance Scheme

If you are trying to secure a private rented property in the Falkirk area but are on a low income and unable to raise the deposit yourself, the Rent Deposit Assistance Scheme may be able to help.

The scheme is available to those looking for a home in Falkirk who meet certain conditions.

Who can apply to the scheme?

The Rent Deposit Assistance Scheme is open to applicants:

  • aged 16 years and over
  • are homeless or threatened with homeless
  • on a low income and therefore unable to raise the deposit on their own
  • currently living in the Falkirk Council area or have a local connection to the area

How does the Rent Deposit Assistance Scheme work?

Falkirk Council will pay a deposit directly to a tenant's landlord. The normal process of lodging the deposit in a deposit bond scheme will be followed and the tenant will repay the deposit to Falkirk Council over a maximum of 12 months.

How can I access the Deposit Assistance Scheme?

You should complete the online application form below.

How much can I receive for my deposit?

The deposit value you will be eligible for will depend on your household circumstances. We will look at your entitlement to the Local Housing Allowance rate for the Forth Valley area.

If successful for an award, how long will it take for my landlord to receive the payment?

Due to our payment schedule, it may take up to 7 days from the date the award is granted for the landlord to receive payment. Keep this in mind before starting your application and ensure you allow enough time before you are required to sign the property agreement.

Please note, if you are found to have a history of not paying housing-related costs, such as rent, service charges or rechargeable repairs then it may affect your application.
