Community Benefits
As part of its commitment to Community Wealth Building, Falkirk Council considers the inclusion of community benefit requirements for procurement exercises valued at £50,000 and above, taking into account the nature of the contract, its duration, local factors, reasonableness and proportionality.
Delivery of community benefits is monitored and managed through close working with the relevant Contract Manager, the Employment Training Unit, the Corporate Procurement Unit and Community Services.
It is acknowledged that not all contracts lend themselves to the delivery of employment and training, which has previously been a priority for the Council. Other types of Community Benefits are now being received from suppliers, such as financial donations, material donations and volunteering days. The aim is to maximise the benefits being delivered to Falkirk Council communities through our contracts.
The Council's Procurement Strategy has an objective to develop community wish lists and to link Community Benefits requested within procurement exercises.
In order to maintain communication across teams and ensure contractual obligations are being realised, a Community Benefit process has been agreed by the Procurement Board. The process clearly sets out roles and responsibilities from the planned procurement stage through to the conclusion of the contract, ensuring that agreed Community Benefits are recorded and delivered. As a Procurement Lead and / or Contract Manager, please familiarise yourself with the role you have within the Community Benefit process.
