20mph speed limits

Falkirk Council's 20mph programme is a phased initiative to introduce lower speed limits on residential streets, town centres and other built‑up areas, with the aim of creating safer, healthier and more liveable communities.

The programme contributes to Scotland's national strategy to make 20mph the standard speed on appropriate urban roads, helping to reduce the likelihood and severity of road collisions while encouraging more walking, wheeling and cycling.

Evidence shows that lower speeds can significantly cut road casualties and improve how people experience their local streets, and early results in our area indicate that 20mph limits are already helping to reduce vehicle speed.

Funding for the programme has been provided by Transport Scotland.

The Falkirk 20mph Streets page includes further information, along with a map highlighting existing 20mph speed limit areas and those planned for the future.
