Curriculum for Excellence is a national framework for learning, designed to reflect the needs of a 21st century learner.
It is delivered to all 3-18 year olds through nurseries, primary schools, secondary schools, colleges, workplaces and community learning. It takes a fresh approach to what, how and where young people learn.
Curriculum for Excellence sets out how all children and young people in Scotland will develop the attributes, knowledge and skills they need to flourish in life, learning and work. It aims to raise standards, improve knowledge and develop skills – to raise achievement and attainment. Ultimately, it aims to nurture young people as successful learners, confident individuals, effective contributors and responsible citizens (known as the 4 Curriculum for Excellence Capacities).
In response to Curriculum for Excellence, we produced a local plan Learning to Achieve, which is our core educational policy and outlines how the new curriculum will be delivered throughout the area.
The curriculum includes all of the experiences which are planned for children and young people throughout their education, wherever they are being educated. This is organised under the following four headings:
- Curriculum Areas (Expressive Arts, Health and Wellbeing, Languages, Mathematics, Religious and Moral Education, Sciences, Social Subjects and Technologies)
- Interdisciplinary Learning
- Ethos and Life of the School
- Opportunities for Personal Achievement (within and out-with the curriculum)
