This course is for Home Care workers who support service users to self-administer medicines or help service users who require assistance and to administer medicines safely to service users when they are assessed as needing this level of support.

 

The course is also suitable for line managers, and those who need to understand the administration of medication processes. Following completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Recognise the factors which contribute to problems with medicines and their management.
  • Describe the responsibilities and boundaries for yourself and others in relation to medicine management.
  • Adhere to the principles of good practice in the management and administration of medicine.
  • Accurately record medicine administration on to Medication Administration Recording (MAR) chart.
  • Know when it is appropriate to ask for help; and how to document this appropriately.
  • Identify sources of professional advice and support.
