Digital Inclusion Project
Our Digital Inclusion Project helps reduce the digital divide in Falkirk by offering free SIM cards to people who need it most. Eligible households can get a free SIM card with a 6-month mobile contract, helping them get online and stay connected.
Who can get a free SIM card?
To be eligible, the household must meet the following criteria:
- live in the Falkirk Council area and an adult in the home must be at least 18 years old.
- get at least one of the following benefits:
- Council Tax Reduction
- Housing Benefit
- Universal Credit
- Pension Credit
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance.
If you don't get one of these benefits but have a low income, we'll use an eligibility calculator to see if you qualify for Council Tax Reduction or Housing Benefit.
Households with no recourse to public funds can also apply.
How do I apply?
You need to be referred for this support – you can't apply for it. Ask any professional who supports you - like a social worker, housing officer or teacher (if you have school-aged children) about this.
What help can I get?
If you're eligible, you could get a free SIM card with a 6-month contract from either Vodafone or O2.
The SIM cards include:
- Vodafone
- 40GB of data per month
- unlimited calls
- unlimited texts
- O2
- 25GB of data per month
- unlimited calls
- unlimited texts
The type of SIM card you get depends on stock availability. Unfortunately, you can't choose a preferred network.
What happens after 6 months?
The free data and minutes will end automatically after 6 months.
If your circumstances haven't changed and you still need help, please speak to the person who referred you. They may be able to help you access further support.
