Digital Inclusion Project

Our Digital Inclusion Project helps reduce the digital exclusion in Falkirk. It provides free SIM cards with a 6-month mobile contract to households that need help getting online.

Who can get a free SIM card

To be eligible, your household must:

  • be in the Falkirk Council area, and
  • have an adult (18 or over) living in the home.

You must also receive at least one of these benefits:

    • Council Tax Reduction
    • Housing Benefit
    • Universal Credit
    • Pension Credit
    • Income Support
    • Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
    • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance.

If you do not receive one of these benefits but have a low income, we will use an eligibility calculator to check whether you qualify for Council Tax Reduction or Housing Benefit. This helps us assess whether you can get support.

Households with no recourse to public funds (meaning immigration status prevents you from accessing most benefits) can also apply.

How to apply

You cannot apply directly.

You must be referred by a professional who already supports you, such as:

  • a social worker
  • a housing officer
  • a teacher (if you have school aged children)

Speak to them and ask for a referral. They will complete the referral on your behalf.

You can also ask for a referral at:

Staff at these locations can help start the referral process for you.

What you will receive

If you're eligible, you will receive a free SIM card with a contract from Vodafone or O2. Stock levels decide which network you receive which means you are unable choose.

Vodafone SIM includes:

  • 40 GB of data per month
  • Unlimited calls
  • Unlimited texts

O2 SIM includes:

  • 25 GB of data per month
  • Unlimited calls

What happens after 6 months

Your free data, calls and texts end automatically after 6 months.

If your situation has not changed and you still need help, speak to the person who referred you. They may be able to support you again.
