Flood Protection Support
We offer financial support to help homeowners and businesses reduce the impact of flooding on their property. If you are eligible, the scheme contributes 30% of the cost of approved flood protection products, up to a maximum subsidy of £1,000 per property or business, while funding is available. The scheme runs on a first come, first served basis and closes once the annual budget is fully allocated.
Who the scheme is for
You may be able to apply if:
- Your home or business is within the Falkirk Council area
- Your property is at risk of flooding
- You are willing to cover the remaining cost after the subsidy
Both homeowners and businesses can apply.
What the scheme pays towards
The subsidy can be used for approved flood resilience products, including:
- Sandbags (filled and unfilled)
- Hydrosacks
- Puddle pumps
- Toilet bungs
- Airbrick snorkels
- Flood defence barriers
- Anti flood airbricks
- One way weep vents
- Flood doors
The Flooding Team will recommend suitable products after a home visit, or you can request alternative products if there is something not listed (subject to approval) but the final decision is always yours.
How the process works
Apply online
You start by completing an online Flood Protection Support application.
This lets us:
- Check eligibility
- Contact you to arrange a visit if appropriate
Property assessment and home visit
If your application is approved, a member of the Flooding Team will:
- Arrange a home visit
- Assess flood risk at your property
- Recommend suitable flood protection products
You will receive a summary of these recommendations after the visit.
Choose the products you want
After the home visit, you will be asked to confirm:
- which products you would like
- How many of each item you would like
- Any alternative products you want us to consider (if not listed)
You do not need to order everything that is recommended. You can choose what fits your needs and budget.
Approval and voucher confirmation
Once your choices are approved:
- You will receive an order confirmation email
- This email acts as your discount voucher
- It shows:
- Your order reference number
- The products and quantities you selected
- The reduced price you pay
- The council's 30% contribution
- Estimated delivery times
The supplier is copied into this email so they receive the same information at the same time.
Ordering and installation
You then:
- Contact the supplier directly
- Place your order using the confirmation email or order number
- Pay your share of the cost
The supplier manages delivery and installation with you.
Falkirk Council does not manage installation, the supplier has partnered with a local business who are experienced to undertake these specific installation works but it is not compulsory to go through them for installation.
Falkirk Council may carry out occasional follow up checks post installation
Estimated delivery times
Typical delivery times are:
- Flood doors: up to 8 weeks
- Flood defence barriers: around 4 weeks
- Other items: usually 1 to 2 weeks
Timescales can vary depending on the product and supplier availability.
Your responsibilities
By taking part in the scheme, you agree that:
- You are responsible for ordering and paying for the products
- You will maintain the products once installed
- The council is not responsible for product performance or installation quality
What happens if your application is not approved
Applications may be declined if:
- The annual budget has already been allocated
- There is insufficient evidence of flood risk
- The property is outside the Falkirk Council area
If this happens, we will email you to explain the reason.
