Falkirk's Rapid Rehousing Transition Plan (RRTP) provides the foundations to ensure that we can build strong partnerships to meet the needs of homeless individuals with complex and multiple needs, including adopting a Housing First* approach.

We believe that we can change the cycle of homelessness for these individuals. We will place prevention of homelessness and Getting it Right for Every Child at the core of our service provision.

We will increase our commitment to ensure those in housing need find the fastest route to safe and secure accommodation to help them resettle in their new homes quickly and successfully with the support they need to do so.

The philosophy of Rapid Rehousing:

  • homelessness should be resolved through effective prevention wherever possible
  • homeless applicants should be rapidly resettled in a permanent housing solution
  • homeless applicants should have access to the widest range of housing options
  • temporary accommodation should only be used as a stop-gap; effective support should be available from day one to enable the homeless household to sustain their own tenancy, and supported accommodation should be available for that small minority of applicants who are not able to sustain their own tenancy at the present time.

*Individuals who are Sleeping Rough move straight into a permanent tenancy with support wrapped around them, rather than going through a stepped process where 'good' behaviour is rewarded.
