Record £123 million investment programme to support schools, roads, housing and communities across Falkirk
Councillors will receive an update later this month on a £68.3 million investment programme covering schools, roads, community facilities and major infrastructure projects across the Falkirk area during 2026/27.
The investment programme includes some of the Council's largest and most visible projects, with funding supporting new and improved facilities, better infrastructure and investment in communities across the Falkirk area. This includes the new Falkirk Town Hall, the Carrongrange campus development, improvements at Bo'ness Academy Sports Wing, and ongoing improvements to schools, roads and community facilities.
During 2026/27, local communities will also benefit from a number of projects being delivered, including a new Inclusion and Wellbeing Service facility for children and young people with social, emotional and behavioural needs, £1.5 million of school heating improvements across the Council area and the installation of 13 new multi-use games areas in schools backed by £1.35 millions of investment.
Planned investment for the year ahead is at the highest level in 16 years and around 20% higher than the amount invested during 2025/26.
The update reflects the latest information on when major projects are expected to be delivered and when funding is likely to be spent, with some expenditure moved into future years to better align budgets with project delivery schedules.
This year's programme reflects significant investment across the area, with funding supporting both major long-term developments and projects that will be completed during the year ahead.
Housing remains a major area of investment through the Council's separate Housing Capital Programme, which is expected to invest £55.2 million during 2026/27.
This includes around £20 million for new homes and buybacks to help increase the supply of affordable housing, alongside continued investment in existing council homes through programmes focused on energy efficiency, property improvements and safety works.
Amanda Templeman, Chief Finance Officer, said:
This update shows that significant investment continues to be planned across the Falkirk area.
"The overall programme remains unchanged and includes investment in schools, roads, infrastructure and community facilities that will benefit communities across the Council area.
“Alongside this, the Council's separate housing investment programme will continue to support the delivery of new affordable homes and improvements to existing council properties.
"The revised spending profile gives a clearer picture of when investment is expected to be delivered across the programme.
"We hope elected members will welcome this continuing commitment to investment.
Executive members will be asked to note the updated position when they meet on 20 August.
