Households at addresses on land within the Grangemouth Flood Protection Scheme that could be affected by flooding and would benefit from flood protection will be receiving letters from Falkirk Council on the Council’s final decision in respect of the Scheme.

Councillors made the final decision to confirm the Scheme on 17 September 2026 after considering a report on its environmental impact and the findings of an independent hearing into justifications for the scheme and any objections raised. The Council is now required by law to publish the notice and notify affected property owners and occupiers.

The Council has sent out notices addressed to the owner or occupier of properties it identified in 2024 as potentially affected by the scheme. A copy of the notice and further information will also be available on the Grangemouth Flood Protection Scheme website: Full Decision | Grangemouth Flood

Anyone affected by the scheme will have six weeks from the date the notice is published to appeal the Council’s decision-making process.

Individual phases

If no appeals are lodged within the six weeks, the scheme will become operative, giving the Council powers to construct the Scheme in the future. The Council will then ask Scottish Ministers to grant deemed planning permission.

Following completion of the notification process, officers will begin to develop detailed designs for the first section of defences. Construction of the Scheme will be divided into smaller packages of work over several years as budgets are made available to complete individual phases.

On completion, the Scheme will reduce the risk of flooding to 3,960 residential, community and business properties in the communities of Grangemouth, Wholeflats, Glensburgh, Langlees, Carron, Carronshore and parts of Stirling Road in Camelon from both Coastal and River flooding.
