Falkirk Council Chief Executive Kenneth Lawrie has announced that he will retire on 31 March 2027, after more than eight years leading the organisation.

Kenneth joined Falkirk Council in August 2018, having served as Chief Executive of Midlothian Council since September 2009. His local government career began in 1994 and included roles at Dartford Borough Council and Scottish Borders Council.

He has led Falkirk Council through significant financial pressures and organisational change, including the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent recovery.

Acting Leader of Falkirk Council, Councillor Paul Garner, said:

Kenneth has led the Council through some exceptionally challenging years with honesty, care and a strong commitment to the people of Falkirk.

"I have greatly valued his advice and support, and his willingness to have open conversations about difficult decisions. Throughout it all, he has kept the needs of our communities at the heart of his work.

"On behalf of the Council, I want to offer Kenneth our heartfelt thanks for everything he has contributed. When he retires in March, he will leave with our warmest wishes for a long and happy retirement.

Kenneth Lawrie said:

It has been a privilege to lead Falkirk Council and work alongside colleagues who care so deeply about the people and communities they serve.

"I am grateful to colleagues, elected members and partners for their support throughout my time here. There is still much to do before I retire in March, and I remain committed to supporting the Council and our communities over the coming months.
