If you're struggling with energy costs, there is help available. Different organisations offer support with fuel, heating, home improvements and advice.

Fuel Bank Foundation

The Fuel Bank Foundation provides 2 fuel vouchers worth £73 - one for £49 and one for £24.

How to access

Fuel Bank Heat Fund

This fund is available for financially vulnerable households who live off the gas grid and rely on bulk fuel deliveries. The Heat Fund ensures people are not left without energy for basics like heating or hot water.

Eligibility

  • Your household must be off gas grid and rely on bulk fuel.
  • You must also currently be without heat or at risk of no heat.

Home Energy Scotland

Home Energy Scotland offer free and impartial energy advice, tariff checks and income maximisation.

Eligibility

  • Scottish residents.

The Scottish Government's Warmer Homes Scotland programme offers support worth £10,000 or more for eligible households for energy-saving home improvements like heating and insulation to help make your home warmer and cheaper to heat.

Scottish Welfare Fund - Crisis Grant

The Scottish Welfare Fund - Crisis Grant can help if you have an urgent need that puts your health or safety at serious risk - for example, if you have no money for food or you can't afford electricity or gas.

Eligibility

  • Falkirk Council resident
  • Aged 16 and over
  • On a low income/receiving benefits
  • Have no other support

Child Winter Heating Payment

The Child Winter Heating Payment is a benefit from the Scottish Government to help disabled children and young people and their families with increased heating costs over winter.

This benefit is paid once a year. The payment for winter 2025-2026 is £255.80.

Eligibility

  • Aged 19 or younger
  • Receiving the highest care rate disability benefits

The Winter Heating Payment is a yearly payment to help with winter energy costs for people on low-income benefits.

Eligibility

People who receive certain benefits such as:

  • Universal Credit
  • Pension Credit
  • Income Support
  • Support for Mortgage Interest

Pension Age Winter Heating Payment

The Scottish Government's Pension Age Winter Heating Payment helps people of State Pension age pay their heating bills.

You could get a payment of between £100 and £300.

Eligibility

  • Born on or before 21 September 1959
  • Lived in Scotland on at least the last day of the qualifying week - the qualifying week for winter 2025/2026 is Monday 15 September to Sunday 21 September 2025

How to access

Warm Home Discount

The Warm Home Discount is a one-off annual discount of £150 on your electricity bill for qualifying households on a low-income. If you're eligible, your electricity supplier will apply the discount to your bill.  

Eligibility

You qualify if you either:

  • get the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit
  • or are on a low income and meet your energy supplier's criteria for the scheme

Priority Services Register

By joining your energy supplier's Priority Services Register, you can get extra support - including help with bills, meter readings and priority assistance during power cuts.

  • Elderly
  • Disabled
  • Chronically ill
  • or have young children

  • Join through your energy supplier or network operator.
