1. Where will my assessment interview be?

Your assessment will take place at one of our Advice and Support Hubs. We will tell you which hub to attend when we book your appointment.

Both hubs offer private interview rooms.

2. Does my partner need to attend with me?

If your partner lives with you, it is helpful for them to attend so we can:

  • understand everyone's circumstances
  • check identification and household details

If it is not safe for your partner to attend, please let us know. Your safety comes first.

3. Will you check why I have been asked to leave my home?

Yes. As part of the assessment, we normally confirm why you have been asked to leave your current or previous home. This helps us understand your situation and what duties we owe you.

If you have any concerns about us contacting someone, please tell us. We will discuss safe options with you.

4. I have a home but I donโ€™t feel safe. Can I still present as homeless?

Yes. If you do not feel safe in your home — for example because of abuse, threats, violence or exploitation — you may still be considered homeless.

Tell us as soon as possible. We will talk with you about safety and what support or accommodation you may need.

5. Iโ€™m not from the UK. Can I still get homelessness help?

You may be eligible if you have:

  • settled status
  • indefinite leave to remain
  • refugee status

We will check your immigration status as part of your assessment and explain how it affects the help we can provide.

If you're unsure about your status, still contact us - we will advise you.

6. Can I present as homeless to more than one council?

You can approach more than one Scottish local authority, but we recommend only applying to the area:

  • where you currently live
  • where you want to be permanently housed
  • where you have a local connection (family, work or previous residence)

If you make more than one homelessness application, please keep us updated about any decisions or offers you receive elsewhere.

7. Can I appeal the decision on my case?

Yes. You have the right to request a review in certain situations.

8. What if English is not my first language or I need additional support?

We can provide:

  • an interpreter
  • British Sign Language (BSL) support
  • accessible formats
  • a private room
  • a caseworker of the same sex, if you prefer

Tell us what you need when we agree your appointment.

9. What should I do before my assessment?

To help us make a quicker decision, please bring:

  • proof of identity
  • National Insurance number
  • recent letters about benefits or income
  • details of everyone in your household
  • your address history for the last 5 years

If you don't have everything, still attend. We can collect missing information later.

10. Who can I contact for help before the interview?
