Residents and road users on the A9/A904 are being advised of a series of overnight closures planned for June and July.

The closures cover two distinct phases of work. The first involves the demolition and removal of the old railway bridge at Midthorn (A904), which will allow construction work to progress in that part of the corridor. The second involves surfacing, road markings and signal works on the A9, which will allow key sections of the route to open as dual carriageways for the first time.

Closure dates

The planned schedule is as follows:

Monday 22 June to Friday 3 July 2026 (consecutive nights, 8pm to 6am)
A904 at Midthorn - Removal of temporary sheet piling and demolition of bridge structure.

Monday 6 to Saturday 11 July 2026 (consecutive nights, 8pm to 6am)
A9 between Westfield Roundabout and Etna Road Roundabout - Completion of surfacing, road markings and signal loops.

Monday 13 to Thursday 16 July 2026 (consecutive nights, 8pm to 6am)
A9 between Westfield Roundabout and Stadium Roundabout - Completion of surfacing, road markings and signal loops.

Late July
A904 between Westfield Roundabout and Forth Valley College - Completion of surfacing and road markings.

Diversions will be clearly signed and in place for the duration of each closure. Advertised dates include a contingency allowance and may be subject to change.

About the project

The A9/A904 Improvement Project is part of the Council’s wider TIF programme - a 25-year initiative that funds infrastructure improvements through future business rates generated by new development, rather than council tax.

The wider programme has already delivered more than £36m of infrastructure improvements across the Council area, supported more than 2,100 jobs and attracted around 135,000sqm of new commercial development.

The project is jointly funded with £14.1m from the UK Government and is being delivered by Balfour Beatty on behalf of the Council.
