Easter Carmuirs Primary School has been rated “good” for learning, teaching and assessment, and for raising attainment and achievement, following an inspection by His Majesty’s Inspectors of Education in February 2026.

Inspectors highlighted the strength of relationships across the school and the calm, inclusive environment that helps children feel confident and ready to learn. They also noted effective partnership working with parents and the local community, widening opportunities for pupils.

The school has 175 pupils on roll, including 28 children in its Enrichment Department, which provides additional support. The report stated that most pupils live in areas of higher deprivation and more than half have an identified additional support need.

Attainment in literacy and numeracy was evaluated as good. Most children are achieving expected national levels at key stages, and those requiring additional support are making good progress. Inspectors also recognised the school’s clear focus on equity, including effective use of Pupil Equity Funding and practical steps to reduce the cost of the school day.

Inspectors identified the Enrichment Department as a particular strength. Staff were commended for well-planned, tailored approaches and for using specialist communication strategies that support sustained progress.

The report sets out areas for further improvement. Teachers will continue to strengthen consistency in learning and teaching, with greater focus on pace and challenge. The school will also build on its work to improve attainment in literacy and numeracy, working with other schools to support shared standards and expectations.

Headteacher Shelagh Todd said:

We are very pleased with this report; it is a testament to the hard work of our team and the vibrant spirit our children bring to school. Our goal isn't just academic progress, but providing the foundational skills and self-belief that children carry with them long after they leave us.

“By fostering a supportive culture, we are helping our pupils become well-rounded individuals who can contribute to the world with kindness and capability. We will continue to work with our whole community to further strengthen our learning and teaching, and to keep improving outcomes in literacy and numeracy, so that every child leaves here feeling empowered to take on their next chapter.

Jon Reid, Director of Education, said:

“This report reflects the sustained work of staff and partners to reduce barriers to learning and support children to achieve.

Inspectors confirmed they are confident in the school’s capacity to improve further. No further visits are planned in connection with this inspection.
