Flood prevention work completed to help protect Braeside Place homes
Residents in Braeside Place, Reddingmuirhead, will benefit from a reduced risk of flooding following the completion of improvement works in August.
The £30,000 project was carried out after a detailed flood study identified a simple but effective solution to a long-standing problem affecting a small number of homes.
During periods of heavy rainfall, water flowing from surrounding land collected at the lowest point of Braeside Place, increasing the risk of flooding to nearby properties.
The completed work involved removing a raised earth bank within the grounds of Braes High School, allowing water to follow a more natural route into the nearby burn instead of collecting near homes.
The solution was identified following a flood study commissioned by Falkirk Council after a number of flooding incidents over recent years. Modelling showed that the work would significantly reduce flood depths and help prevent water from entering properties during severe rainfall.

Residents have experienced flooding here on a number of occasions, so we're pleased to have completed these works.
"This relatively small investment should make a real difference by allowing water to drain away more effectively during heavy rainfall.
"This is a good example of how targeted improvements, based on detailed evidence, can help protect homes and give residents greater peace of mind.
The project forms part of Falkirk Council's ongoing work to reduce flood risk and improve resilience to increasingly frequent periods of heavy rainfall.
A new scheme is also now available to help residents and businesses reduce the risk of flooding by applying for a subsidy towards selected property flood-resilience products.
The support is designed to reduce the upfront cost of equipment that can limit damage during heavy rainfall or rising water. Residents and businesses can apply for a maximum subsidy of £1,000 to help protect properties.
