Callendar House has been awarded more than £130,000 through the latest round of Museum Futures funding, helping to enhance visitor experiences and support the long-term sustainability of one of Falkirk's most treasured heritage attractions.

Falkirk Council has secured two separate awards through the programme, which is delivered by Museums Galleries Scotland in partnership with the Scottish Government and The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

The first award of £81,857 will support the development of an exciting new programme of seasonal events at Callendar House over the next two years. The programme will feature a range of themed daytime and after-hours experiences inspired by the history and heritage of the house and its surroundings, including events linked to Halloween, Christmas, spring and summer celebrations.

A further £49,553 has been awarded to modernise the popular Callendar House Tea Room. Improvements will include a move from table service to a more efficient counter-service model, alongside upgrades to front-of-house equipment and kitchen facilities.

The projects aim to attract new audiences, encourage repeat visits and create new opportunities for income generation, helping to secure the future sustainability of the venue while enhancing the experience for visitors.

Councillor Cecil Meiklejohn, Leader of Falkirk Council, said:

Callendar House is one of Falkirk's most important heritage attractions and plays a vital role in connecting local people and visitors with our area's rich history.

"This funding is fantastic news and will allow us to create exciting new experiences that encourage more people to visit throughout the year, while also improving facilities that are already enjoyed by thousands of visitors.

"The investment will help ensure Callendar House remains a vibrant, welcoming and sustainable destination for future generations, while continuing to make an important contribution to Falkirk's cultural offering and visitor economy.

Helen Rashad, Team Leader for Cultural Services at Falkirk Council, said:

Callendar House is a much-loved destination for local communities and visitors alike. This funding is a vital and welcome chance to respond to visitor feedback about the tearoom, make improvements to our service and expand our evening events and seasonal activities for all ages.

“It opens up a new route to sustainably support this historic building and free museum into the future, and share the House and our local heritage in new, creative ways.

The awards form part of a wider £1.3 million investment announced through the latest round of Museum Futures funding, which supports museums across Scotland to develop innovative approaches, strengthen financial resilience and continue serving their communities for years to come.
