Major improvements planned for Bonnybridge this summer

Falkirk Council is investing £460,000 in Bonnybridge this summer as part of a coordinated programme of resurfacing, regeneration and accessibility improvements.
The planned work will see Bonnybridge Toll resurfaced and upgrades made to Memorial Park and surrounding public spaces to improve accessibility, modernise infrastructure and enhance the appearance of the area.
Funding for the project comes from the Council’s Regeneration Fund (£400,000) and the roads’ capital budget (£60,000) - part of the additional £3.8m investment agreed earlier this year to improve road surfaces across the Council area.
By coordinating activity across services, the Council aims to minimise disruption while delivering long-term improvements to some of Bonnybridge’s most-used public spaces.
Road closure required
Enabling works at Bonnybridge Toll began on Monday 9 June 2025, with temporary traffic lights now in operation to allow preparatory work to take place ahead of resurfacing.
The work includes kerb repairs, pavement resurfacing, and the installation of tactile paving at crossings to make the area safer and easier to navigate for everyone.
The traffic lights are in operation on a three-way system between 9am and 3pm each day and are expected to remain in place for three weeks.
The main resurfacing is scheduled to begin on Wednesday 2 July 2025 and will require a full road closure at Bonnybridge Toll from that date until Friday 4th July.
The closure will affect the section of the A803 detailed below.

While resurfacing is underway, the bus stop at Memorial Park (High Street) will be closed. A nearby alternative stop will be signposted.

Regeneration Fund delivering for Bonnybridge
The improvements are supported by the Council’s Regeneration Fund, which was set up in 2023 to help deliver infrastructure upgrades and community-led development in towns and villages across the Council area.
In Bonnybridge, around £400,000 from the fund is being used to improve Memorial Park and nearby public spaces. Work outside the park – including new kerbs, smoother pavements and textured paving at crossings – is already underway as part of the early preparation phase.
Once resurfacing of Bonnybridge Toll is complete, the focus will shift to Memorial Park, where improvements will make the entire site more accessible and inclusive for everyone. Planned work includes:
- New, accessible pathways, including lowering path gradients to make routes easier to use
- Enhanced seating, landscaping and tree planting
- Improved hardstanding areas around the flagpole and monuments
- Repairs to park surfaces +.
A further £100,000 from the Regeneration Fund has been allocated to a new pump track at Anderson Park, which is being delivered in partnership with the Green Action Trust.
The projects have been shaped by local feedback and aim to create safer, more attractive, and more inclusive spaces for the community.

Cllr Paul Garner, Falkirk Council’s Deputy Leader and spokesperson for Economic Development, said:
It is really positive to see this major investment in Bonnybridge, and reinforces all the work we are doing as a Council to ensure meaningful improvements take place across the wider Falkirk area.
“We’re doing everything we can to coordinate the work and minimise disruption for local residents. By combining roads resurfacing with public realm and park upgrades, we’re not just making things look better - we’re making them work better for the community.
“The Regeneration Fund was designed for exactly this kind of project - one that listens to local voices, delivers lasting improvements, and makes places more welcoming and accessible for everyone.
