New flood protection support scheme launches
A new scheme is now available to help residents and businesses reduce the risk of flooding by providing a subsidy towards selected property flood-resilience products.
The ‘Flood Protection Support’ will see Falkirk Council providing a 30% contribution towards a range of items including sandbags, hydrosacks, flood doors, and flood defence barriers.
The support is designed to reduce the upfront cost of equipment that can limit damage during heavy rainfall or rising water. Residents and businesses can apply for a maximum subsidy of £1,000 to help protect properties.
Councillor Bryan Deakin, Spokesperson for Climate Change said:
Flooding is becoming more common as weather patterns change.
“This scheme helps make practical flood-resilience products more affordable, giving residents and businesses a realistic way to strengthen their properties.
“Taking simple steps now can reduce damage and help communities cope better during severe weather.
Application process
The process includes an initial application followed by a home visit from the Council’s Flooding Team. During the visit, officers will assess the property and provide guidance on suitable products. Applicants then confirm their chosen items.
Products supported through the scheme are widely used across Scotland and can help reduce the impact of both minor and more serious flooding. While they cannot remove risk completely, they offer an extra layer of protection that can help prevent avoidable damage, improve recovery times, and provide reassurance when severe weather is forecast.
