Senior pupils from across all of Falkirk’s High Schools gathered in Grangemouth recently to learn more about what opportunities that they have moving on from school later this year.

The event, organised by Falkirk Council, brought together a wide range of local organisations that provide training, employment and support for young people and offered them a chance to meet employers, training providers and support organisations from the local area.

Among those taking part were Forth Valley College, Skills Development Scotland, Jobcentre Plus, Go! Youth Trust, Link Living, Cyrenians, CVS Falkirk and The Conservation Volunteers. Community organisations including Falkirk Football Community Foundation, Stenhousemuir Football Community Foundation and LGBT Youth Scotland also attended, alongside Falkirk Council teams involved in apprenticeships, parental support and community learning and development.

The event allowed pupils to ask questions and learn more about options such as college courses, apprenticeships, volunteering and wider support available to help them move into work or further training.

Michael McGuinness, Head of Growth, Planning, Sport and Culture at Falkirk Council, said:

Leaving school is a big step and it is important that young people understand the range of opportunities available to them.

“Our role is to help give them the best possible chance of reaching their own personal destination in life. By bringing together employability partners, training providers and support organisations in one place, we can help young people see what is possible and give them the means to take the next step.
