Staff and pupils praised at Whitecross following inspection
Whitecross Primary School and Nursery Class have been praised by inspectors for their caring and inclusive approach, with the nursery receiving two “very good” evaluations in a report published today (3 November).
Inspectors highlighted the strong and trusting relationships between staff and children, which have created a nurturing environment for learning. They also praised the effective leadership of Headteacher and the contribution staff make to improving children’s experiences and outcomes.
In the nursery, Inspectors noted how well staff know children and families and the wide range of stimulating experiences provided indoors and outdoors. They found that all children are making very good progress.
Senior leaders and staff were also recognised for how they track children’s progress and use data to identify gaps, helping teachers plan learning that meets children’s needs.
Headteacher Donna Kilpatrick said:
We’re very proud of this report and of what it says about the caring and inclusive environment we have created across Whitecross.
“It reflects the hard work of our whole team and the strong relationships we have with our children and families. It is rewarding to see the work of our nursery and the progress children are making recognised in this way.
“We know there is always more we can do, and we will use the report to continuously strive to build on our practice of what is working well to continue to improve the experiences and outcomes of all our children.
Councillor Iain Sinclair, spokesperson for Education said:
This is a positive report for Whitecross and one the whole school community can be proud of.
“It’s especially encouraging to see the nursery recognised so positively, alongside the strengths highlighted across the wider school.
“What comes through clearly is the commitment of staff across the school and the strong relationships they have built with children and families. I’m sure they will build on that as they take forward the next steps identified in the report.
HM Inspectors of Education visited Whitecross in August 2026. The report identifies areas for further improvement, including building on developments in learning, teaching and assessment and continuing work to improve writing, listening and talking skills. Staff have also been asked to monitor the impact of the different approaches used to raise attainment for individual children.
The school will also continue work to develop children’s digital skills and their learning of additional languages, in line with national guidance.
Inspectors confirmed they are confident the school has the capacity to continue to improve and will make no further visits in connection with the inspection. Falkirk Council will keep parents and carers informed about the school’s progress through its usual reporting arrangements.
