Work is underway to transform the play area at Kinneil Estate as the programme to upgrade playparks continues across the local area.

The improvements are supported by £723,000 from the Play Park Renewal Fund in 2025/26, helping deliver upgrades in communities across Falkirk.

The upgrade at Kinneil, costing £200,000, will introduce a range of new and accessible play equipment, creating a more inclusive space for children and families. Reflecting the site’s heritage and its location near the Antonine Wall, the redesigned play area will feature a Roman theme.

The Council worked with the Friends of Kinneil group to gather community feedback and help shape the plans for the upgraded park.

The Kinneil project forms part of a wider programme of improvements this financial year. In 2025/26, 13 play parks across Falkirk have been renewed or upgraded, with 10 completed and three currently in progress.

  • Victoria Park, extended with additional play equipment including a trampoline, rope swing, zipline and multi-unit with wide slide
  • Gairdoch Park, where new wet-pour surfacing and inclusive equipment including swings, a trampoline, play panels and sensory features have been installed
  • Langton Road Park, which now includes a pyramid climber, trim trail, swings, springies and a multi-unit.

Other parks have received partial upgrades. California Road Park, Anton Park, Dalgrain Park and Bellsdyke Park now include new multi-unit equipment, while Westfield Park has been enhanced with a wheelchair-accessible roundabout and new swings.

Further improvements are planned at Coneypark and Greenpark Drive with new equipment due to be installed by April 2026 and at Easter Carmuirs Park where a major upgrade will begin in April 2026. The redesign will include accessible surfacing and a wider range of inclusive play equipment.

Michael McGuinness, Head of Growth, Planning, Sport & Culture said:

Playparks are an important part of our communities and it’s great to see work underway at Kinneil to create a new and inclusive space for children and families to enjoy.

“Investment from the Scottish Government’s Play Park Renewal Fund is helping us improve parks across Falkirk so more children can access safe, high-quality places to play close to home.

Local communities and children have helped shape many of the improvements through surveys and school engagement, with residents also invited to vote on their preferred designs. Community groups including Friends of Kinneil, Camelon Community Council and Safer Youth Action Project supported the engagement process.

Since the Play Park Renewal Fund began in 2021, 38 play parks across Falkirk have been upgraded or renewed, helping ensure children and families have access to quality play spaces in their local communities.
