October 2025 update
This is not the most recent update.
Over recent months, external experts have conducted detailed investigations into the condition of the school building, including material testing and structural assessments.
Findings show that while the building can be retained, significant reconstruction work is needed. This includes replacing external masonry, addressing structural defects, rebuilding the glazed wall in the dining hall, replacing the roof, and upgrading internal systems like fire safety, electrical, and mechanical infrastructure. The estimated cost for these works is £14 million.
With Council approval, a Tier 1 contractor will be appointed through Hub East Central to lead the design and construction phases. While the school was initially expected to reopen in August 2026, the revised timeline now sets the reopening for August 2027, ensuring the work is completed to the highest standards.
Current arrangements for pupils will remain in place during this time, with safety measures implemented to separate construction activity from school use. A detailed report on the project will be discussed at a special Falkirk Council meeting on Thursday, 6 November 2025.
The Council will continue to engage with the Maddiston community, providing updates and discussing future plans. The Council extends its gratitude to the community for their patience and support throughout this process.
