A proposed Parking Strategy for 2026-2036 will be discussed by elected members on 4 December.

If approved, it would guide how parking is managed across the area over the next decade and align with existing transport priorities.

The draft strategy sets out a proposed approach to make better use of existing parking assets, respond to local parking issues raised by communities and support active and sustainable travel.

Key proposals include strengthened enforcement, targeted reviews of parking in town centres, management measures around rail stations and consideration of parking charges at some locations to support maintenance and reinvestment.

A two-stage consultation process between late 2024 and 2025 helped shape the draft strategy.

The first stage gathered views on current parking behaviours through an online survey, supported by engagement with internal services, transport partners and local businesses.

Common themes included concerns about cost, capacity, parking violations, issues near schools and pressure at rail stations.

The second stage focused on a list of potential actions the Council could take to improve parking across the area. Of the public responses, 41% related to Falkirk Town Centre. The key issues identified across the Council area were enforcement (18%), parking management (18%), duration of stay (15%) and residential parking (13%).

Douglas Gardiner Head of Environment and Operations said:

Residents, businesses and partners have shared clear views on local parking pressures and priorities.

“The proposed strategy aims to give a consistent approach across the area, make better use of our existing spaces and support safer, more accessible streets.

“It is for Members to consider the draft strategy and its recommended actions.
