Linda, who has spent the past 29 years at Denny High, says the pupils will be what she misses most.

Inspired by her own music teachers, Linda studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama before training as a teacher at Jordanhill. She began her career at Woodlands High School, where she taught for 11 years, before moving to Denny High as Principal Teacher of Music.

Over four decades in the classroom, she has seen huge changes in music education - from lessons centred on singing and recorder, to pupils now using iPads to record performances, rehearse with backing tracks and access online resources.

She believes one of the biggest positives has been the widening of access to music, with more pupils now able to learn a greater range of instruments and styles.

While Linda has worked as a full-time classroom music teacher, she has also supported Falkirk Council concerts and New Found Sound events over the years, with Denny High taking part in several performances.

For Linda, school concerts and shows are among the most special memories of her career, giving pupils the chance to share their talents and grow in confidence. She has also taught many young people who have gone on to careers in music, while others have gone on to succeed in a wide range of professions.

As she looks ahead to retirement, Linda plans to enjoy more concerts, travel and time with family and friends - but says teaching has been “the best job ever”.
