Work is now under way this month on a programme of investment at Grangemouth Town Hall aimed at protecting the historic building and helping ensure it can continue to serve local people for years to come.

The works form part of a £2 million Council investment programme supporting Grangemouth Town Hall, Bo'ness Town Hall and the Dobbie Hall. The funding is being used to address priority maintenance needs, protect important community buildings and help ensure they remain available for community use in the future.

The investment comes at a time when use of the venue continues to grow. Almost 50,000 people attended events or visited Grangemouth Town Hall during 2025/26, more than double the numbers recorded just a few years earlier.

The venue welcomed more than 31,000 visitors through general footfall alone, alongside thousands more attending community lets, classes, family activities, concerts and professional performances.

Demand remains high, with weekends fully booked through to Christmas and major productions from Falkirk Youth Theatre, Falkirk Bohemians, Project Theatre and Young Portonian Theatre Company already in the diary.

Originally opened in 1885, the Town Hall remains an important part of community life in Grangemouth and across the wider Falkirk area. Following the closure of Falkirk Town Hall, it has taken on an increasingly important role as a venue for arts, cultural and community events.

The refurbishment will include repairs to the main roof, renewal of flat roof areas, replacement of gutters and downpipes, upgraded insulation and the installation of a modern double-glazed skylight. Existing roof slates will be retained for reuse on other listed council buildings.

While most of the works will not be immediately visible to visitors, they are designed to address priority maintenance issues, maintain the building's condition and help prevent more significant deterioration in the future.

Councillor Cecil Meiklejohn, Leader of Falkirk Council, said:

Grangemouth Town Hall is a valued community asset that continues to play an important role in the life of the town and wider area.

"Much of this work will take place behind the scenes and won't be immediately visible to those using the building. However, these improvements are essential to protecting the Town Hall, addressing priority maintenance issues and helping prevent more significant problems in the future.

"This investment demonstrates our commitment to safeguarding the building so it can continue to host community events, performances and activities for many years to come.

The works are expected to take between eight and ten weeks to complete, with events and activities continuing as planned throughout the project.
