Learning through experience
Christie Anderson joined our Housing Service as a summer intern for four weeks earlier this year, and here she explains what she got from her time with Falkirk Council.
Christie said:
I have been the Summer Intern here at Falkirk Council for the summer of 2026. I came here through the Career Ready Programme, which allowed me to gain experience of being in the workplace while still attending school.
"While working at Falkirk Council, I was tasked with a project focusing on how the Council can improve its engagement with young people. At the end of my four weeks with the Council, I presented my findings and recommendations to senior members who will take my feedback into consideration.
"My time at Falkirk Council has truly been a valuable experience that has helped shape both my personal and professional development. Over the course of my internship, I became significantly more confident and independent, not only in the workplace but also in my everyday life.
"The opportunity to collaborate with colleagues and present my work also strengthened my communication skills and gave me the confidence to share my ideas with others. My internship has been an unforgettable experience, and I am excited to build on everything I have learned as I continue my education and work towards my future career.
The video below shows her presenting to senior leaders on how Housing may be able to engage better with young people.
