Chief Executive, Kenneth Lawrie, has issued an update to all staff, acknowledging the pressures some colleagues are experiencing and reaffirming the Council’s commitment to safety, dignity and respect across every workplace.

Hi everyone,

I want to share a short update with you, recognising that the wider environment many of us are working in continues to feel unsettled for some employees.

For most staff, day-to-day work continues as normal. For others, particularly those working directly with communities or in public-facing roles, this background can add an extra layer of pressure.

I want to be clear about the Council’s position. Falkirk Council is committed to fairness, dignity and respect at work. Every member of our workforce should feel safe and treated reasonably while working.

I am also mindful that colleagues from minority backgrounds, including those who have moved to Scotland from elsewhere, may feel the impact of current events more directly. You are a valued part of this organisation. Your contribution is important, and you should not feel isolated or unsupported in your role.

Your safety and wellbeing remain a priority. If you have concerns about your working environment, your duties, or how current events may affect you, please speak with your line manager. Support is also available through our HR and wellbeing services as well as trade union representatives.

I also want to be clear that abuse, or harassment are not part of anyone’s job. All employees have the right to be treated with dignity and respect while at work. Discrimination, intimidation or harassment are not acceptable to anyone in their day-to-day roles. Where staff experience unacceptable behaviour, it must be reported in line with council policies where they will be supported going forward.

If you experience or witness behaviour that causes concern, please report it through the appropriate channels. This helps us respond appropriately and provide support where it is needed.

Alongside this, the Council continues to work with its partners on community cohesion. This is about maintaining calm, respectful communities, addressing misinformation where necessary, and supporting staff and residents in a proportionate way. Much of this work happens quietly, but it is ongoing and will continue over the weeks and months ahead.

I know you continue to carry out your roles professionally and thoughtfully, often in challenging circumstances.

Thank you for the care and commitment you show in serving our communities.

Kenneth
