Temporary traffic lights will be in place on the A9 to allow surfacing work to be carried out safely ahead of switching traffic onto the new carriageway.

The temporary lights will be in operation 24 hours a day from Wednesday 26 November to Friday 5 December at the latest.

This will allow Balfour Beatty to finish surfacing both the new footpath and the new carriageway from Westfield Roundabout and around the new Gateway roundabout

When surfacing is complete

Once the surfacing work is complete, traffic management will change to allow vehicles to use the new carriageway as follows:

  • Northbound: traffic will follow the route around the newly constructed Gateway roundabout
  • Southbound: traffic will continue to use the temporary lane through the roundabout until construction of the second side of the carriageway and roundabout is finished

A spokesperson for Falkirk Council said:

Final surfacing will complete this section and is a necessary step before we allow vehicles to use the newly constructed works. We know the temporary lights can slow journeys, so we appreciate everyone bearing with us while we complete this stage safely and keep the project moving.

About the project

The A9/A904 Improvement Project is one of the largest infrastructure schemes delivered through Falkirk Council’s TIF programme. It includes new carriageway layouts, roundabouts – including the Gateway roundabout above - and upgraded routes for pedestrians and cyclists.

Once complete, the project will support safer travel, improve traffic flow and unlock development opportunities around the Helix, Falkirk Stadium and Forth Valley College.
