In 2022, Her Majesty the Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee - seventy years of service - having acceded to the throne in 1952.

To mark the occasion and in line with national plans, elected members have agreed to move next year’s May public holiday to Thursday, 2 June and include an additional fixed holiday on Friday, 3rd to give an extra-long weekend.

Employees who are scheduled to work and unable to take the day off, will be able to take the additional holiday at an alternative date.

Children’s Services is reviewing how the holiday can be implemented in schools as a reduction in working days for teaching staff requires approval by the Scottish Government.  Details will be confirmed to staff and parents/carers once arrangements are agreed.
