The Council has launched a new survey to hear directly from staff about their experiences with occupational violence and related behaviours at work, to further understand the issue and support those affected.

Our aim of the survey is to gather an initial picture of how often employees are affected by incidents such as physical or verbal abuse, distress-related behaviour, or unacceptable actions in the course of their work.

The survey will run until from 22 April until 16 May, and findings will be used to shape future initiatives, identify targeted ways to reduce risk and improve support.

All submissions are completely anonymous.

You can take part in the survey by completing the form linked below.

All staff are encouraged to take part. Questions in the survey ask whether you regularly engage with members of the public - such as pupils, carers, or service users - as part of your job, and whether you have experienced or reported occupational violence in the last six months.

The survey also explores exposure to distressed or dysregulated behaviour - where harm may occur without intent, often due to crisis or support needs - as well as experiences of unacceptable actions, including harassment, bullying, or persistent unreasonable demands.

To make the process as accessible as possible, most questions use fixed responses rather than free text, allowing you to complete the survey quickly and easily.

Your feedback is vital to building a clearer understanding of how occupational violence affects staff, both in and outside of the workplace. For example, this may include incidents where an employee is identified and targeted in public due to their role.

The information gathered will play a key role in shaping safer working environments and developing better support for staff across the organisation.
